To determine the top streaming service in each country, ElectricalDirect analyzed Google search volume for 42 different streaming services for every state (you can read the entire report here). And based on the results, there was a clear runaway winner in America’s streaming wars. Netflix was the top streaming service in most countries by a massive margin, as the home of BoJack Horseman and Stranger Things is 94 different nations’ preferred method of entertainment consumption. This should not come as too much of a surprise, as Netflix is the service that has become almost synonymous with the streaming experience, as evidenced by the fact that the company reached over 207 million subscribers worldwide in the first quarter of this year. Outside of the two major platforms, only ESPN and Hulu were the top in more than one state. But given the constantly growing popularity of streaming, it’s clear that more and more streaming services will emerge over the next few years. And Netflix and Prime Video will need to hold off potential challengers — like Peacock and HBO Max — as well as battling each other.
