The phrase has remained so culturally relevant that it’s even featured on a popular graphic t-shirt that is often worn by adults who grew up loving the film. It’s apparently also worn by kids who have no idea that their shirt has anything to do with a movie, as Patrick Renna and Tom Guiry, two stars from the film, discovered when they ran into a young fan wearing the ‘You’re Killing Me, Smalls’ shirt. Renna, who played Hamilton “Ham” Porter in the movie, told the kid he liked his shirt and apparently the kid had no idea what he was talking about and failed to realize that he had just been complimented for his shirt by the guy who is literally on the shirt. Renna and Guiry then asked to take a photo with the oblivious fan and Renna tweeted out the photo with the caption: “Said nice shirt to this dude walking by us and he had no idea what we were talking about. Thought I would capture the moment.” The photo quickly blew up online, as it has received more than 166,000 retweets in less than two days. While it may seem crazy for someone to not recognize two stars from The Sandlot while wearing a Sandlot shirt, it has been several decades since the film was made and both Renna and Guiry are now fully-grown adults.
